Meet the woman behind the lens

Hi there! I’m Megan, a wife to my high school sweetheart, boy mama x2, and psychiatric counselor based in Baltimore, MD. Welcome to my site where I share with you a passion: capturing a memory and freezing it forever.

My love for photography began in high school and has expanded since that time. I come from a family of photography lovers; my dad is a photographer, my grandfather was a photographer, and many of my extended family members love photography as well. I guess you could say a love for picture taking is in my blood; I don’t think I have a choice not to love it.

Images move me and I see the world more creatively through my camera lens. M.de Wit Snapshots began in 2014 when a childhood friend asked me to photograph their wedding. I had never considered pursuing photography beyond anything other than taking photographs for my own enjoyment. But that wedding sparked something inside of me and planted a seed to pursue photography beyond a hobby.

It brings me joy to create memories for people that they can enjoy for many years. I hope to encourage you creatively, stir up a passion inside of you to freeze more memories, and even inspire some of you to get behind the lens.

My approach to photography

I love candidness more than anything when taking photographs. I love real and raw; truly seeing you; your family; your business. I’ll give you loose directions and let you lead the way the photos will go. Posed shots? Great! Shots of you working on your craft? Wonderful! Pictures of you chasing your kids or them chasing you? Fantastic! I want the photos I take to authentically represent who YOU are. I want to provide you with memories for years to come that you will hold dear to your heart and remember with a smile.

Why photography?

For me, photography is deeply personal. Other than videography, it is the only tangible thing we have to let us revisit the past. To remember people and moments that may otherwise get forgotten years down the road. Photography gives us a way to keep the past alive, in a sense. It’s a tether that allows us to revisit moments in our lives and in others lives that we never want to forget. Photographs are a part of the art of storytelling; they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I am a firm believer in that saying. When I am at the end of my life, I know I will leave hundreds, maybe even thousands of memories and stories for my children in the form of photographs. And I hope to help you do the same for yourself and your family.

I cannot wait to work with you! Let’s talk to figure out how I can best fulfill your photography needs.
